SMARTPHONES IN THE CLASSROOM
Blog post - Smartphones as tools of teaching by Dr. Kushlev
Classroom activity - Based on Dr. Kushlev’s research, the APS Observer provided the following activity to help students become aware of their smartphone use.
1) Download/Set up tracking
For Android devices: download the Digital Wellbeing app from the Google Play Store.
For iPhones: go to Settings > Screen Time. Tap “Turn On Screen Time.” Tap “Continue.”
2) Ask half of the students to attempt to limit their smartphone use until the next class and the other half to use their smartphone normally.
3) At the start of the next class, ask students to share how many hours each day they used their phones (DeWall).
